Vincent Kimeu, Vinnie, (Kenyan b. 2001) Lives and works in Nairobi
Member of the Mukuru Art Collective
Vincent Kimeu, professionally known as Vinnie, is a contemporary Kenyan landscape and portrait artist whose vibrant, deeply symbolic paintings capture the spirit of East Africa’s shifting terrains. Working primarily with acrylics on canvas, Vinnie’s art is characterized by a distinct technical duality: using bold, expressive strokes to build atmospheric skies, and precise, flat brushwork to ground his landscapes.
At the core of Vinnie’s practice is a profound color philosophy. He masterfully utilizes black for his structural sketching to signify mystery and the boundless unknown, juxtaposed against a striking use of red in his background layers to represent life, passion, and resilient hope. This technique is powerfully realized in his current Astronomical Series, an exploration of atmospheric effects during the liminal transitions of daylight—capturing the fleeting, emotive essence of dawn, dusk, and sunset over regions such as Tigoni, the Ngong Hills, and the Great Rift Valley.
Nurtured under the mentorship of celebrated artist Adam masava, whom Vinnie honors as his "art father," his work has steadily gained both local and international acclaim. He has exhibited at premier East African institutions, including the Circle Art Gallery, One Off Contemporary Art Gallery, Banana Hill Art Gallery, and the National Museums of Tanzania. Beyond the continent, his work has been introduced to global audiences, notably featuring in a milestone exhibition at the Heritage Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.
Vinnie continues to live and work in Nairobi, creating from the collaborative ecosystem of the Mukuru Art Collective as he expands his portfolio for the global stage.
Edwin Thuo (Kenyan, b. 2003) Lives and works in Nairobi
Art began for him at an early age, where his interest was sparked in his early formative years and his grandmother, taking a keen interest in his need for artistic expression, supplied drawing material from her rural shop for him to use.
His work features figures, drawings, sketches and paintings inspired by his environment and those around him, he seeks out to reveal the dual nature that is life, it being both simple yet complex. He employs acrylics, markers, graphite and oil paints into his practice to weave his desired narrative.
Thuo has showcased his works at The Kobo Trust,International School of Kenya, One Off gallery, Usanii Mashariki (UM) gallery and at the National Museums of Kenya.
Joshua Mochache, (Kenyan b. 2002) Lives and works in Nairobi
Joshua Mochache is a Kenyan contemporary artist working primarily with watercolor, pastel, and acrylic. His practice explores the quiet electric silence of landscapes that hold memory, shapes that emerge when you look long enough, influenced by pareidolia and Buddhist attention.
His work has been exhibited at Circle Art Gallery, Myrna art direction, Ardhi Gallery, GoDown Arts Centre, Village Market, the National Museum of Kenya, and the Iran Cultural Centre.
Mochache's recent series, Event Horizon and Dark Side of the Moon, investigate the space between looking and seeing, where watchers appear, and the self dissolves.
